Our
brother Robert Emmenegger was born in Monroe,
Wisconsin
in 1913. From 1928 until 1939,
Robert was with the Divine Word Brothers of Techny,
Illinois. In 1939 he became a postulant for
the Order and was vested as a novice in 1940; professing simple vows in 1942.
From
1949 until 1954, Robert worked faithfully as a lay brother at
920 Christian Street, the faculty house for Southeast Catholic.
From 1954 until his death, he was porter and did kitchen work at the old
abbey and what was to become St. Joseph
Priory on the college campus.
Robert
was a simple man, who usually spent more time with frats’ parents on visiting
day than the frat was able to. His
room was always found piled high with layers of bed sheets and newspapers
separated by trays of foodstuffs. Nevertheless,
he was a kind and caring soul who performed his religious duties faithfully.
Brother Robert died Monday,
February 10, 1975 at the age of 61.
