Our
brother Isadore "Izzy"
Gosz (GOE-SH) was born in Reedsville, Wisconsin, in 1918, joined the Order in
1941 and soon thereafter was assigned to teach at the college and St. Norbert
High School. He was solemnly
professed in 1946.
Because
of Izzy’s unique talents, appointments to financial positions comprised the
major part of his life: Business Manager of St. Norbert College, Treasurer of
the abbey, Managing Director of the abbey’s television and radio stations,
Assistant to the President of St. Norbert College, Secretary of the College
Board of Trustees and finally Chairman of the Board.
Whenever
challenged on something that he knew the challenger knew nothing about, he would
respond: “Is that right?”
Izzy’s
talents extended to the field of sport as well. He was an avid fisherman
and he always had his favorite "top secret" fishing holes and special
techniques for not letting “the big one” get away.
Never
wanting to be out of touch with spiritual matters, Izzy
ministered pastorally to the needs of the parish in Luxemburg on weekends,
hearing confessions and presiding at the Eucharist.
He died on Wednesday, January 13, 1999 at the age of 80.
