ST. NORBERT ABBEY

b. Tuesday, Mar. 6, 1917 –d. Wednesday, Apr. 29, 1992

Our brother James Johnson was born in Sugar Bush, Wisconsin in 1917.  After his sophomore year at the college, he joined the Order in 1937.  In 1939, he was assigned to the faculty of Southeast Catholic with summers spent at Camp Tivoli.  Jim joined the faculty of Central Catholic in 1946, became the chaplain to the Green Bay area Civic Air Patrol in 1950, and full-time assistant at St. Willibrord in Green Bay in 1955.

In 1957, Jim founded St. Norbert Parish, in Paoli, Pennsylvania, near what was to become Daylesford Abbey.  In 1969, he became the pastor of St. Margaret in Cut Bank, Montana and from 1980 until 1982, was the pastor of St. Boniface in DePere.  During the years 1982 until 1985, he filled in for pastors who wanted to participate in clergy renewal programs in Marquette, Michigan, Green Bay , Helena and Great Falls, Montana.

Jim died suddenly on Wednesday, April 29, 1992 from the effects of leukemia, just 2 months short of his 50th anniversary of ordination, in 1992 at the age of 75.
