Our brother
Fabian Jolicoeur (JOLLY-curr) was born in
Escanaba
,
Michigan
in 1913. In the early 1930’s he
took courses in accounting and auditing at the
Escanaba
Business
College
, and was a reporter for the Delta Reporter.
Fabian joined
the Order in 1933 and was solemnly professed in 1938.
As a frat, he was appointed to the faculty of the college in 1936, in
1941 to the faculty of Southeast Catholic, and in 1944, to the faculty at
Archmere.
In
1947, Fabian became the assistant to Abbot General Noots in
Rome
in preparation for the General Chapter of that year.
After an educational trip to the
Holy Land
in 1951, he returned to the college faculty and taught scripture to the
juniors. From 1955 through 1960, he
furthered his education in French at
Laval
University
in
Canada
.
Fabian
was an avid player of tennis and highly respected and loved mentor for Theta
Phi, the first women’s social sorority on the college campus, which was
founded in 1953. Love for him among
the Sisters of this Sorority never
floundered, even when at the wedding reception of one of his sorority women,
being a heavy smoker, he set fire to the bride’s gown!
Six of his sorority sisters were pallbearers at his funeral after his
death on
Thursday, March 18, 1999, at the age of 86.
