Our
brother Ernest LaMal was born in Green Bay
in 1917 and after his freshman year at the college, joined the Order in
1935. In 1938, Ernie was assigned to Southeast Catholic to teach biology.
He was solemnly professed in 1940.
After
ordination, he continued at Southeast for 13 years, spending his summers
teaching at Alverno or studying at Villanova or Marquette.
In 1951, Ernie was added to the faculty at Central Catholic.
Earning
a Master’s degree in Education from Marquette
in 1952, Ernie joined the college faculty.
There, in addition to teaching during the academic year, he held the role
of director of summer school sessions from 1953 until 1970.
In 1955, he earned a Doctorate in Education from Loyola in Chicago
, and then became the chairman of the education department at the college.
From 1957 to 1960, he was also the director of admissions, and in ’62,
the director of advanced placement. Beginning
in 1980, he headed the college’s Early Childhood Conference.
Ernie
died on Friday,
May 20, 1988 at the age of 71.
