Rt Rev. John Michael Logan, O. Praem.
b. Sunday, Jan. 13, 1935 – d. Friday, Feb. 8, 2008

Our brother John Michael Logan was born on January 13, 1935 and raised in West Philadelphia .  He was graduated from St. Joseph Preparatory School and attended St. Joseph College in Philadelphia before joining the Order at Daylesford in 1954.  John received a B.A. in Philosophy from St. Norbert College in 1957 and was solemnly professed in 1959.   From 1957 through 1971 John taught the classics at St. Norbert High School , Abbot Pennings High, Archmere Academy and Bishop Neumann High School for Boys.

John received an M.A. in Religion from Temple University in 1971 and a Licentiate in Canon Law from Catholic University in 1975.  That same year he was assigned to the Wilmington Diocesan Tribunal and held the position of Judge from 1976 until 1985.  From 1982 through 1985 he was a member of the Daylesford Abbot’s Council and in 1983 became a Corresponding Member of the Juridical Commission of the Order.

John was elected abbot of Daylesford Abbey in 1989.  The critical years following his term as abbot resulted in him and others separating themselves from Daylesford Abbey and establishing Immaculate Conception Priory in Middletown, Delaware.

John worked in various capacities during his final active years for the Diocesan Chanceries of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Wheeling-Charleston , West Virginia and Camden, New Jersey.

John succumbed to pancreatic cancer on this day in 2008.  His body is entombed in the family plot in Holy Cross Mausoleum in Philadelphia.
