Our brother
Cyril Miron was born in Chassel
, Michigan
. He was vested as a novice after
graduation from St. Norbert High in 1925, earned his B.A. degree from the
college in 1928, and was appointed to the faculty of St. Norbert High that same
year. He professed solemn vows in
1930.
Ordained
in 1932, Cyril was appointed to the first faculty of Archmere, which opened that
fall. There he was moderator of
“The Keystone”, the school’s yearbook.
He received an M.A. from Catholic
University
in 1936, and a Ph. D. in ’38.
After
being a member of the college faculty in 1939, Cyril became Master of Novices in
1940. From 1942 until 1946, he
served as a chaplain in the U.S.
Army’s Pacific theatre with the rank of major.
After
the war he rejoined the college faculty and taught philosophy to the frats.
His blackboard visual aid drawings consisted of a “Snark”,
a combination of a snail and a shark, and a cat, made up of two circles on top
of each other, with pointed ears and a tail!
What these signified remains unknown - perhaps ‘Slow as a snail, but
quick as a shark,’ and something about cats having nine lives.
Nevertheless, these mysterious illustrations
were a part of every course!
Cyril
became prior of the abbey in 1949. As
such, he ruled the choir with an imperious
pitch pipe!
Even the castrati of the
Vatican
choir would have had trouble reaching the pitches he intoned!
Cyril
was appointed pastor in Valier, Montana
in 1957. He died there on Thursday,
September 11,
1958, at the age of 55.
