Our brother Emmanuel Mulhall was born in Cylon, Wisconsin in 1915, and
joined the Order after graduating from St. Norbert High and a year at the
college in 1935 and was
solemnly professed in 1940.
He was appointed to teach business and typing courses at Southeast
Catholic in 1938, where he remained until 1949.
During the intervening years, he was disciplinarian and treasurer at the
school, an assistant hospital chaplain at St. Agnes, a military chaplain to the
Philadelphia
district, and chaplain at the
Valley Forge
Military
Hospital
.
“E” returned to
Wisconsin
in 1949, spending that year teaching at Central Catholic and as a military
custodian. During the 1950’s, he
ministered in
Bruce
,
Wisconsin
,
and Osceola and
Essexville
,
Michigan
.
He was also chaplain at the
Bay
County
Hospital
and
Bay
County
Juvenile
Hospital
in
Michigan
.
Back in
Green Bay
in 1967, "E" was chaplain at Our Lady of Charity Convent until 1974, when he became pastor of Holy Cross Parish in Bay Settlement until 1984.
During
his retirement years at the abbey, "E" took care of Mass stipends, and scooted
around the cloister walks in his battery-operated wheel chair.
"E"
was a mild-mannered man, with nary a complaint about anything.
He carried his substantial weight with dignity. Well-read, he was a
delightful conversationalist, who had many varied ministries and experiences.
He died on Monday, August 7, 2000 at the age of 85.
