Our brother
Roger Paider was born in Pilsen, Wisconsin
in 1913. After graduating from St.
Norbert High, he was vested in the Order in 1932, professed in 1934 and
ordained in 1939.
After
having been on the faculty of
St.
Norbert High from 1936 until 1941, he was transferred to Central Catholic,
where he remained until 1944.
From
1944 until 1961, he taught at Archmere, becoming temporary Prior and Headmaster
in 1945.
Roger
studied library science at Villanova in the ‘50’s and was head librarian at
Archmere from 1951 until 1958, when he was appointed Superior.
When
Daylesford became independent from DePere in 1963, Roger joined the East and
continued as Novice Master at Daylesford from 1961 until 1965.
In 1965, he was named House Superior and Librarian at Bishop Neumann High
School, a
post he held until 1969.
From
1970 to 1976, Roger was Chaplain at the Dominican Retreat House in Elkins Park, Pennsylvania, and from there was made
Pastor of St. John’s
in Essexville from 1976 until his retirement to the priory at Bishop Neumann in
1982.
Roger died at
Fitzgerald Mercy Hospital in Philadelphia on Sunday, October 13th, 1985 at the
age of 71.
Roger,
a big man with a big heart, was loved and esteemed by all who knew him.
When his huge hand hit you on the back, you knew who was present, and
when he laughed, the whole house shook! No
one was ever outside the scope of his friendship and concern.
