Our brother
Rene Petit was born in Ripley
, Michigan
in 1926. In 1944, he joined the
U.S.
Navy and served in the Pacific theatre on Guam and
Manila, in the Philippines
during World War II. After his
discharge in 1950, he entered the Order after a year at the college.
He professed solemn vows in 1956.
Rene
taught English at St. Norbert High from 1954 until 1958, when he
was transferred to Bishop Neumann, where he remained until 1966 teaching his
great love: English literature. During
1966-67, he was a Navy chaplain, and in 1971, studied at the
U.S
.
International
University
in
San Diego
. He was assigned to the Premontre
faculty from 1972 until 1976.
In 1977 became
pastor of St. Mary in Chester
,
Montana
until 1982.
After a sabbatical at Sangre de Christo in
Santa Fe
, during 1982-83, he became pastor at St. Benedict in Roundup,
Montana
, until 1986.
Returning
to the abbey with a serious heart condition, Rene died
Friday, July 21, 1995 at the age
of 68.
