Our brother Anthony Polini was born in Philadelphia in 1924. After graduating from Southeast Catholic, he was vested in the Order in 1943, professed in 1945 and ordained in 1949.
In the year of his ordination, Andy was appointed to the faculty of Southeast Catholic High School.
Summers during the mid 1950’s were spent at Notre Dame University, taking courses in counseling and the pedagogical methods of Fr. Putz, C.S.C. for teaching religion to high school students.
During his teaching years at Southeast, Andy never missed a chance to join the cheerleaders at athletic events, doing cartwheels and high jumps with the younger set!
In 1957, he joined the Archmere faculty and, as he put it, for “nine months, 14 days, 6 hours, 34 minutes and six seconds,” taught religion, before being assigned to Premontre High School in 1948.
From 1967 to 1974, Andy was the principal of Bishop Neumann and later the Assistant Superintendant of Schools for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.
He was also the first Procurator of the Norbertine Missions in Peru.
Always feisty, and never allowing anyone to get away with the things he got away with as a youth, he ruled the school with an "iron fist!" He was a loved by many, and an avoided man by some, a man who had to have things done his way…or else!
Worn out by the ravages of liver cancer, Andy died on Friday, September 23rd, 1977 at the age of 53.
