Our brother Rudolph Rooymans was born in Holland in 1913, and vested as a novice at Berne in 1931. He made his solemn profession in 1936.

“Rudy” was a missionary in India from 1938 until 1967, and was the founder and the first prior of Jamtara, from 1961 until 1967. Among his many stories about India , he recounted a night when sleeping in a sleeping bag under the open skies, he awoke to the feel of a snake sharing his sleeping bag! He assumed it was a cobra seeking warmth for the night. He stayed very still and, amazingly, fell asleep. When he awoke in the morning, the snake was gone.

After his time in India , Rudy returned to the United States and worked with the confreres in Philadelphia , and was chaplain at Cabrini College from 1968 until his death on Friday, December 19^th, 1975 at the age of 62. He is buried at Daylesford.
