b. Sunday, Sept. 19, 1869 – d. Tuesday, May 30, 1939

Our brother Athanasius VanHeertum was born in Gemert, Holland in 1869.  He joined Berne Abbey in 1888 and was solemnly professed there in 1893. 

Athanasius immigrated to the United States in 1898, and was appointed pastor of Our Lady of the Snows in Delwich, Wisconsin, to replace Bernard Pennings, who had just moved his new foundation to DePere.

In 1899, he was transferred to Manitoba, Canada, recalled in 1903, and appointed the second rector of the college and sub-prior of the priory.  In 1913, he was appointed pastor of St. Willibrord in Chicago, where he died on Tuesday, May 30th,1939 at the age of 69.
