History:
Founded in 1136 as a daughter house of Steinfeld. It was suppressed in 1806, and restored as a self-governing priory in 1959 as a daughter house of Windberg Abbey. It was elevated to the status of Abbey July 24, 1994. From the most ancient times, the abbey church has served as a parish church. Pope John XXIII established the parish of Saints John the Baptist and John the Evangelist, and awarded a special title to the pastor -- Propst.
