Other Comments: Celebrated Abbey, co-headquarters of this Circary along with Wadgassen, founded by the Duke of Hohnstein-Bilstein.  Daughter house of Pöhlde.  Destroyed by hooligans in 1526, and again by Lutherans in 1546 after which it was transformed into a school.  Between 1629-31 it was restored to the status of an Abbey.  In 1857 it was transferred to the authority of Leffe.  In 1859 the entire medieval structure of the Abbey, including the Church, was demolished and the entire institution was reconstructed in "new style."
