History:

Founded in 1202, the abbey was secularized in 1803 during the seizures of the Napoleonic Era.  The abbey was restored to the Order on Pentecost Monday, May 28, 2007, with the foundation of a new community of Secular Tertiaries, and is a dependent house of Hamborn.  Sayn also hosts the Institute of Theological and Ecclesial arts and is a Testing Centre for the "Fernhochschule Europa" - The Distance Learning School of Europe.
