St. Samuel (Nebi Samuel) North of Jerusalem

. . . THIS MAY TAKE A MOMENT OR TWO . . .

This is the traditional resting place of the Prophet Samuel, about 8 km. northwest of Jerusalem.  The mosque is built atop and surrounded by Ancient and Crusader era ruins, among which are those  of the Monastery of St. Samuel.

The view from St. Samuel southeast towards Jerusalem.  Crusaders first saw Jerusalem from this height, and named it the Mount of Great Joy.  They built a fort here, with the Abbey-Church of St. Samuel at its centre.
Some of the ruins.
More Crusader era ruins.
The current mosque, open to all faiths.  Crusader era ruins are in the foreground.
Archaeological reconstruction of the Crusader fortress with the church of St. Samuel in the centre.
